Unforgettable Trailer

A video to give you a taste of things to come

A lot has happened to me this past year. From doing small freelance gigs for kids’ games, to being hired to work in Madrid as a concept artist. This was one of the most challenging/memorable experiences I ever had. From learning a new language, to getting accustomed to a different culture, everyday presented a new challenge.

I have seen things I thought I would never have the opportunity to see, and dealt with changes that I never saw coming. As artists we strive to create things that will be remembered. This is an experience that I consider unforgettable and I hope day I can convey that feeling in my art.

Stay tuned for the full video

Sketchy, Sketchy

Been sitting on this guy way too long--

Heres the straightup painted sculpt without all of the fancy lighting/paintover:
(I wanted to actually sculpt out the brain / brain cavity and not just paint it, which was hard, to say the least...)

Lunch Sketches 21

Was looking at some Adrian Smith stuff, got me inspired so I started to do some brush studies, and found a way to mix it in a bit with how I like to paint. Needs more practice but I'll get in better control with it soon enough ;)

Lunch Sketch 15

Practicing some realism! It's tough, definitely need more than an hour to really nail this down. Upward and onward.

Lunch Sketch 13

Round 2

So furthering my exploration of Robh's approach to painting ( you can check here to see the first ones I did http://kalenart.blogspot.com/2011/12/ruppel-studies.html) , I have found some interesting things about it that I think are quite efficient. I am not sure how to put it all in words. But it is definitely putting me outside of my comfort zone.

So I included the intial block out. This is actually kind of where I spend the most time thinking. It kind of hurts my head to think about all the shapes and how lighting affects it. Its kind of like being a mathematician . However, When I did get past that particular part . Everything felt rather easy and relaxing to do. I will have to do more studies of this. Any way's enjoy

Oh Hai!

Hey everyone!  Guess its time for me to get off the sidelines.  I have a bunch of stuff sitting on my harddrive that never sees the light of day -- gotta get better about that...

Some character variation sketches for a personal project I'm developing.  First pass--

A little refinement--

I'm flattered to have been invited to contribute to such a talented group.  Thanks for letting me tag along! :]
